I've not seen many people discuss this so I thought I'd chime in. I've developed a system which is a little cumbersome but allows for ease of access to any combo of stock and 3rd party plugins/instruments.I used to organize the 3rd party folder itself, but then Waves ruined that for me with their Waveshell format. What I did in response was take all the plugins I use most often and put them into an effects rack (a group) and save them into a custom folder, which is always on the very bottom of the browser.

This way I can have any combo of plugins, even chains and my own presets, easily organized and accessed. The upsides for my workflow are massive, I have to go to just one place to access everything I need, and as I said I can save my own chains of plugins, etc.The downsides are minimal but worth noting. Obviously once you've chosen your single plugin in an effects rack to insert, the effects rack no longer serves a useful purpose.Problem - A big pile of single plugins, each sitting in their own effects rack, causes the.als (project) file to bloat in size unnecessarily and quickly compounds to slow everything down, even on a powerful system. So what I did was develop a reflexive CTRL(or Cmd)+Shift+G every time I drop in a new plugin, to clear the effects rack.I use a MOTU 896 as my main interface and recently began using an old foot trigger with the foot switch input the 896 offers, which can trigger any keystroke combo you tell it to. So now I drop in a plugin, and tap my left foot to clear the audio effects rack, which works pretty well. It's not the worlds best system but for me it's better than jumping to the 3rd party folder for one plugin, then to the stock folder for another, then back to the 3rd party folder, etc. I can categorize my most used plugins however I want, and I can keep the many great Ableton stock effects in with all of the 3rd party ones.Has anyone else evolved a similar system?

WaveshellIt does suck that you can't split the Waves plugins into separate items, but usually if I'm touching Waves plugins I'm in the mixing stage rather than the writing stage and I don't really mind having to click a couple of extra times. To be honest, I usually spend more time pulling in presets I've made which I store in the instrument rack or just using Live's stock audio effects (especially the EQ8, compressor and Utility, I use them on almost every track).
