I know that ANet made design decisions to not allow mods. I do not agree with it at all. Maybe if I had been playing the past 2 years I would feel differently, but PvP seems to have a massive learning curve that is only exacerbated by a shitty combat log and the complexity of every class' skill and trait combinations. THat complexity is a great thing, but it makes pvp soooo fking hard if you're a casual player.I know that mods can get overwhelming and abusive, but if I had to play WoW for 2 years without any mods at all, I would have quit after a few months of end game content. GW2's stock UI is far above WoW's (at least when I played), but mods made that irrelevant. The amount of data I had quick, instant access to in a heads up display allowed me to make better decisions faster.
Im not necessarily talking about raid mods, but GUI mods and combat log parsers specifically. I get annoyed by the complete lack of damage information available in GW. The combat log in WoW was largely useless without a parser, but GW2's log is actually worse.
IIRC it doesn't even list when conditions have been added to or removed from your own character. It makes it impossible to figure out WTF happened in the middle of a fight that turned the battle in their favor without an intimate understanding of every skill of every class. I havent been playing long enough to fully understand what my own class can do yet (in builds I havent used), let alone the hundreds of traits and skills for the other 7. That day may sometime come, but until then I feel completely lost in all forms of PvP. It's the single reason I originally quit.I want a HUD-style damage and conditions system that shows new effects in the middle of my screen, surrounding my player, so I dont have to look down for tiny-ass icons every 2 seconds.
GW2 is like driving a car with a traditional instrument gauge cluster, but having to look at it every few seconds to be effective. It's dangerous. A HUD mod and combat log parser would be the equivalent of critical information being projected onto the windshield for minimum invasiveness and maximum efficiency.Being relatively new to PvP and WvW (played at launch, level capped, got bored, quit, came back a few weeks ago), i'm having a tremendously difficult time figuring out wtf other classes are doing to me. The combat log is basically worthless besides telling me what I hit for and got hit for. If i can't understand their abilities, how can I be expected to counter or modify my build to compensate?

If I knew what a skill was and did, I could match it up to its animations, but it's all gibberish right now and I can't see that changing anytime soon. Create 1 of every class and play to 80? As much as i LOVED lvling my first toon (the best PvE/levelling i've ever experienced in an mmo), im already getting bored at 40 on my second.I wish you could see the target of your target and what skill (with a casting timer) a target is casting, because right now, without knowing every animation or mechanic of every class, it's impossible to know WTF is going on./rant. No, there's no in-game mod support for the game.As a developer I still think it's really sad, since a lot of the UI and functionality is still half-done at best. There are a lot of low-hanging fruit that a small in-game script support would be able to fix. Hell, if well-done, they could make a distributing approved mods and include the best by default or in an options menu. But players are scared of the extreme mods in WoW, and many seem to panic at the slightest mention of mod support in the game. Well.depending on what they allow in regards to modding, you can look at past examples of games on how to get around that by using channels to communicate mod-specific data.
So groups could become 'require MOD or you will be kicked' for a mod that communicates damage or gear.a more positive example of this were the vanilla wow texas hold 'em or blackjack mods where the mods communicates over a private channel with other players and then displays that information in a gui window inside the game. You use the mod, you get access to the mod's features. You're acting like there's no way for the original mod creators to implement security or a form of encryptionedit: also the fact that any website that is set up to be the place to get mods would quickly remove and ban these clone spoofs if they wanted to be considered reputable and reliable. The people looking for the clone/spoofs would be reaching out to less trafficked websites.the same way the texas hold 'em mod didn't allow players with different versions or modified versions in the same lobby.
